How it works
- One book a month
A comic, graphic novel or collected edition, announced here with the date of the discussion. Get it however suits you.
- Read in your own time
No reading schedule and no chapters per week. Finish it, or get as far as you get.
- Talk about it on Discord
One live conversation a month, plus a channel that is open all the time. Plot, art, ideas, what it made you feel.
Suggest a book
Tell us what the club should read next and why. Suggestions go to the people who run the club, not straight onto the site. Anything from a single issue to a 500-page collection is fair game.
Questions
Does it cost anything?
No. The club is free and always will be. You buy or borrow the book however you like; the shop can help if you want it to, but you never have to buy from us.
I have never been in a book club. Is that a problem?
Not at all. Most of us have not. You read the book, you turn up, you say what you thought. That is the whole thing.
Do I need to know a lot about comics?
No. Nobody is expected to be an expert, and nobody will quiz you. Reading the month's book is the only homework.
What if I have not finished the book?
Come anyway. The discussion will mention everything, so expect spoilers, but half-read is still welcome.
Where does the discussion happen?
On our Discord server, as a live voice chat you can join from a phone, tablet or computer. You can listen without speaking. Between meetings the conversation carries on in text.
Who chooses the books?
Readers suggest them with the form on this page, and the club picks from the suggestions. Over time we want that to be a vote.
Can I just read along without joining Discord?
Yes. The book and the date are always on this page. Discord is where the talking happens, but reading along is enough.
Retro Relics Comic Club is run by Retro Relics Comics, a comic shop on Teesside, and open to anyone anywhere. It is free, it is not a sales channel, and nobody is expected to be an expert. Read together. Think differently. Talk comics.
