Why this issue matters
Adrian Veidt, billed as the world's smartest man, debuted in the same landmark issue, the retired hero at the centre of Watchmen's central moral question about whether terrible means can justify a peaceful end.
Watchmen #1 is also the first appearance of Rorschach, which is part of why the book carries the weight it does.
