Sheffield was producing nearly half of Europe's steel by the middle of the nineteenth century, and the Steel City tag has never really gone away even though the industry that earned it has. It is also the birthplace of Pulp, the Arctic Monkeys and the Human League, which tells you something about what the city was reading and listening to while the rest of the country wrote it off as just another northern industrial city. Two universities, a huge population, and a lot of streets where comics were bought weekly rather than occasionally.

A proper trip from Teesside, so for Sheffield I would talk it through by phone and arrange a day that works before setting off.

How it works in Sheffield

1. Send photos. Covers and spines are enough to start. If it is a full collection, a photo of each box and a few close-ups of anything you think might matter.
2. I go through them properly. You get an itemised view rather than one number for everything, so you can see which comics carry the value and which do not.
3. You decide. No pressure, no obligation, and no hard feelings if you would rather sell elsewhere or keep them.
4. I collect and pay. Free collection, and payment on the day rather than when something eventually sells.

What I am looking for in Sheffield

Marvel and DC from the 1960s through to the 1990s, key first appearances, complete runs, independent titles and horror. I will also take the ordinary boxes alongside the good stuff, because leaving somebody with four boxes of comics nobody wants is not much of a service.

Why sell to me rather than a general dealer

Most house clearance firms and general second hand dealers price comics by the box, because they have no way to tell a valuable issue from a common one. That is fine for them and expensive for you. I read these, I sell them, and I know the difference between a first printing and a reprint, and between a newsstand copy and a direct edition.
