Amazing Spider-Man is the run I have bought most of and sold most of, and it is the one I once drove to Gloucestershire at eleven at night for, so I am not going to pretend I am neutral about it. What I will do is price your books against what they are actually selling for now, tell you straight which ones matter, collect for free anywhere in the UK, and pay on the day.

The Spider-Man books that carry the value

Amazing Fantasy #15, the first Spider-Man. Almost every copy I am offered is a reprint, so I check before anyone gets excited

The Ditko villains: Amazing Spider-Man #2 (Vulture), #3 (Doctor Octopus), #4 (Sandman), #6 (Lizard), #9 (Electro), #13 (Mysterio), #14 (Green Goblin), #15 (Kraven), #20 (Scorpion, January 1965)

Amazing Spider-Man #23 (first Norman Osborn as the Goblin unmasked storyline), #31 (first Gwen Stacy and Harry Osborn), #41 (first Rhino)

Complete runs of Amazing Spider-Man, especially the 250 to 350 stretch that everybody built in the eighties

Runs matter with this character more than any other. A complete Amazing Spider-Man run from the two hundreds through the three hundreds, kept in good condition, is one of the most sellable things in the hobby, and I would rather buy it whole than watch it get split.

What I actually look at

Reprints. Amazing Fantasy #15 and the early Ditko issues exist in more reprints and facsimiles than almost anything else. The Marvel Tales reprints, the facsimile editions and the True Believers line all look right to someone who does not handle them every week. I check the indicia and the price box, every time.

The black cover problem. Amazing Spider-Man #300 shows every mark. Two copies that look the same from across the room can be grades apart, and that is most of the price. I grade honestly and I will show you what I see.

Pence and newsstand copies. Bronze Age Amazing Spider-Man came into Britain with pence prices on a lot of copies, and those have their own market. Here is how to tell.

Graded books. CGC and CBCS are welcome. If you are wondering whether to grade a raw #300 before selling, it is one of the few books where it can pay, and I will tell you honestly whether your copy is clean enough.

What is the best way to sell a complete Amazing Spider-Man run?

As a run, to someone who wants the run. Splitting it into singles takes months and the keys end up subsidising the filler. Photograph the keys and the boxes and I will make an offer on the lot.

Do you buy nineties Spider-Man, Todd McFarlane era?

Yes. McFarlane's Amazing Spider-Man issues and the 1990 Spider-Man #1 sell, though the 1990 #1 was printed in enormous numbers and its many covers are common. Honest offer either way.
