A quiet but real comics county

Gloucester will never pretend to be London for comics, and I would not insult you by claiming otherwise. But the scene here is genuine. Gloucester has its own Comic Con at GL1, Cheltenham runs a long-standing comic con and toy fair of its own, and the city centre still has a proper comic shop in Planet All Stars, tucked into the Eastgate market. The county even has its own working comics creator in Jon Lock, the Gloucester-based writer behind the independent series Afterlife Inc. and a contributor to 2000 AD.

And this is a county people put down roots in, between the cathedral city, Regency Cheltenham and the villages of the Cotswolds and the Forest of Dean. Roots mean collections: books bought steadily over decades, now sitting in lofts and spare rooms from Gloucester Docks to the smallest Cotswold village.
