Thought Bubble, the comic art festival founded right here in Leeds in 2007, grew into the biggest event of its kind in the country; its main convention has since moved to nearby Harrogate, but its roots are pure Leeds, started by an artist who was working in a comic shop in the city at the time. Leeds has been a comic shop city for decades: one of the North's best known chains began in Headingley back in 1991, and independents still trade from Thornton's Arcade, one of the beautiful Victorian arcades the city is famous for.
