Ripon is technically a cathedral city, the smallest in England, but it feels like the market town it has always been. Every night for over a thousand years someone has blown a horn at the market cross to set the watch, a tradition that has outlasted most of what else changed here. Small and old towns like this tend to have deep roots and long memories, which is exactly where a collection has had decades to sit undisturbed.

Close enough to Harrogate and Thirsk that a Ripon trip usually covers more than one collection.

How it works in Ripon

1. Send photos. Covers and spines are enough to start. If it is a full collection, a photo of each box and a few close-ups of anything you think might matter.
2. I go through them properly. You get an itemised view rather than one number for everything, so you can see which comics carry the value and which do not.
3. You decide. No pressure, no obligation, and no hard feelings if you would rather sell elsewhere or keep them.
4. I collect and pay. Free collection, and payment on the day rather than when something eventually sells.

What I am looking for in Ripon

Marvel and DC from the 1960s through to the 1990s, key first appearances, complete runs, independent titles and horror. I will also take the ordinary boxes alongside the good stuff, because leaving somebody with four boxes of comics nobody wants is not much of a service.

Why sell to me rather than a general dealer

Most house clearance firms and general second hand dealers price comics by the box, because they have no way to tell a valuable issue from a common one. That is fine for them and expensive for you. I read these, I sell them, and I know the difference between a first printing and a reprint, and between a newsstand copy and a direct edition.
