Right on my doorstep

Washington was a mining village until 1964, when it was designated a New Town and built out to the sprawling place of 67,000 people it is today. It is the ancestral home of the Washington family, George Washington's own line, and Washington Old Hall still stands as a National Trust property in the middle of it. New towns like this were built fast and filled fast, and the generation who grew up in them are exactly my usual customer.

A bit further round than my closest patch, but well within reach, and easy to combine with Chester-le-Street or Gateshead.

How it works in Washington

1. Send photos. Covers and spines are enough to start. If it is a full collection, a photo of each box and a few close-ups of anything you think might matter.
2. I go through them properly. You get an itemised view rather than one number for everything, so you can see which comics carry the value and which do not.
3. You decide. No pressure, no obligation, and no hard feelings if you would rather sell elsewhere or keep them.
4. I collect and pay. Free collection, and payment on the day rather than when something eventually sells.

What I am looking for in Washington

Marvel and DC from the 1960s through to the 1990s, key first appearances, complete runs, independent titles and horror. I will also take the ordinary boxes alongside the good stuff, because leaving somebody with four boxes of comics nobody wants is not much of a service.

Why sell to me rather than a general dealer

Most house clearance firms and general second hand dealers price comics by the box, because they have no way to tell a valuable issue from a common one. That is fine for them and expensive for you. I read these, I sell them, and I know the difference between a first printing and a reprint, and between a newsstand copy and a direct edition.
