Gothic by reputation, and it shows in the collections

Whitby has an unusual relationship with horror, thanks to the abbey, Bram Stoker and the Goth Weekend that has become part of the town's calendar. That culture leaves a mark, and I see more horror comics come out of Whitby than anywhere else in the region.

Horror titles are worth paying attention to at the moment. Older independent horror in particular has been quietly climbing, and it is a corner of the market a lot of general dealers do not look at closely.

How it works in Whitby

Whitby is a longer run, but very much worth it for a full collection. Get in touch and we will sort a time.

1. Send photos. Covers and spines are enough to start. If it is a full collection, a photo of each box and a few close-ups of anything you think might matter.
2. I go through them properly. You get an itemised view rather than one number for everything, so you can see which comics carry the value and which do not.
3. You decide. No pressure, no obligation, and no hard feelings if you would rather sell elsewhere or keep them.
4. I collect and pay. Free collection, and payment on the day rather than when something eventually sells.

What I am looking for in Whitby

Marvel and DC from the 1960s through to the 1990s, key first appearances, complete runs, independent titles and horror. I will also take the ordinary boxes alongside the good stuff, because leaving somebody with four boxes of comics nobody wants is not much of a service.

Why sell to me rather than a general dealer

Most house clearance firms and general second hand dealers price comics by the box, because they have no way to tell a valuable issue from a common one. That is fine for them and expensive for you. I read these, I sell them, and I know the difference between a first printing and a reprint, and between a newsstand copy and a direct edition.
